Planting with Ms. Juma

Youth summer employees participated in farming with Ms. Juma from the Black Creek Community Farm where they learned how to cultivate their own produce in the pots behind the PEACH lot.  They planted tomatoes, spinach, bodi, poi, kale and callaloo. They learned about the anatomy of a plant, when to water the plans, tips on how to maintain plant growth and when and how to pick them to prepare for cooking.

“My experience with the garden is the garden/ farm was an environment from my daily life. The farm was quite that makes you feel relaxed and calm. There were natural fruits and vegetables growing on the farm.”

“Gardening — I learned new facts about plants.”

“Learned new names for plants I never knew about.”
