School Away from School (SAS) is a community based program for youth at-risk of falling out of the school system. Youth are referred to SAS through a partnership with Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board. Within the program, students work with teachers to attain high school credits while a Child and Youth Worker engages youth with a life skills program and contact with others who can help build the student’s resiliency to ensure a smooth transition back to mainstream education.
Referrals to the program can be made through the school boards’ Caring and Safe Schools Departments, directly from school principals or community.
The SAS Program has been generously funded by the Rogers Youth Fund, Youth Challenge Fund and numerous family foundations through the Toronto Foundation.
